Abstract Art For The Ears

Or flat out creepy? But in a really good way? The mysticism in the video leaves me a little unsure what to think, but when push comes to shove, I dig it. Check out "Lovely Bloodflow (Anticon)" by Baths off their debut album Cerulean.

Doe Deer

Last night I went with some friends to see Crystal Castles at Terminal 5 for HARD Summer Tour and it was an awesome show. Sinden, Destructo, and JDH & Dave P opened and I have never seen so much sweat in my life. Alice Glass fell on me.

Here's To All The Assholes

Today has been just a joyous day. At 3pm my purse was stolen while lunching with Em. If I ever found who did it (not gonna happen but a girl can dream) I would hang his/her head in my living room like a toy panda.

Cudi Overload

I HAD to share this. I love love love this cover of Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness". Lissie and her band really know how to rock out. With this cover you really need to watch the performance (I can't remember the last time I was so pleased with Youtube) because an audio clip would not do it justice. Despite her hands getting a little awkward towards the end, I think it's amazing.

Soon I'm Consumed By My Doom

Listening to a couple tracks from the upcoming album Man on the Moon 2 (out September 28th) from Kid Cudi. I'm a huge Cudi fan but I haven't been so down with a lot of the tracks I've heard. I can't figure out if I like or hate this song "Erase Me" which features Kanye West. I'm sort of into it but the chorus annoys me. What do you guys think of this track?

"A Literary Fetish Is The New Black"

Sharing some summer reading that I've enjoyed. I've kept it light for some fun beach reads. Handler was hysterical, Ganek was light and fun, and had to read Rice, the originator of the Vampire trend. Soak up the sun and enjoy what's left of summer! (hopefully with a good book, your toes curled in the sand, with friends and lovers, and a good margarita).

Lost You Just The Same

I'm getting pretty excited for August 17th. New Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs...I'm loving the leaked tracks and can't wait to hear the whole album.

Fat Bottomed Girls You Make The Rockin' World Go Round

Had a nice luxurious weekend in the Hamptons, with the highlight being the delicious lunch I prepared on Saturday, (scallops wrapped in prosciutto, soy-glazed salmon, lemon zest chicken, a fresh summer salad with the most delectable yellow and orange cherry tomatoes from the farmers market, and violet eggplant galore!) with the low point seeing "Dinner With Schmucks" - which I would not recommend to my worst enemy.

On Friday I went exploring with Lola and have some great finds to share! We stopped in at Liquiteria on LES, a unique restaurant that specializes in liquid meals and juices. They do have a small selection of solid foods and vegan desserts, but I would really recommend trying out one of their pre-made pressed juices. I tried "Royal Flush", a combination of pineapple, pear, aloe, ginger, & Liver, Kidney, Lymph detox. Lola had the "Grasshopper", a combination of apple, pear, pineapple, wheatgrass, & mint. They were so delicious and I need to go back ASAP and try something new!
We also stopped by Baked by Melissa in Soho and bought one-inch mini cupcakes from a tiny window in the middle of the street. Anyone who knows me would probably assume that the Mint Chocolate Chip flavor is my poison of choice.

We stopped for coffee at an outdoor cafe in Little Italy and then walked our way over to BabyCakes, the famous Vegan bakery. We split a zesty lemon vanilla cupcake made with spelt, I took a bite and then died and went to heaven. It was SO good and their chocolate chip cookie sandwiches with vanilla frosting looked like a dream.

Haters they gonna hate....

Everybody needs to stop trashing Wavves. Their second album, "King of the Beach", was officially released yesterday on Fat Possum Records, and it it has a totally different feel. I loved their first album, but this one is much less raw, perhaps it has something to do with the fact that it was recorded in a studio in Mississippi with Modest Mouse's producer. The 60's vibes mashed with the their Cali punk-rock sound makes it an enjoyable record that feels really fresh. I'm really digging it and am quite bummed I missed their show at Bowery Ballroom this past Monday, they put on a pretty hardcore show with moshing and crowd surfing galore. (I'm a surviving witness to their set last summer at Bowery)

My Sister Went To Nice And All She Brought Me Back Were Some Lousy Fashion Magazines

Just kidding! Thank Lauren, I think I fell slightly more in love with Alexa Chung in her 60's inspired shoot in L'Officiel. Below are some photos from a spread in Vogue Paris featuring models Frida Gustavsson, Freja Beha Erichsen, and Crystal Renn, shot by David Sims. Who said you had to understand the language to speak fashion?
