Like Golden Rays Of Sun

On June 8th, Ms. Aguilera is releasing her new album Bionic on RCA Records. The album features artists like Ladytron, Le Tigre, Goldfrapp, Santogold, and M.I.A. Check out "Elastic Love", featuring M.I.A., I'm really digging it and think think this track will blow up. (yet doesn't M.I.A. do all the work on this song?)

P.S. Happy Memorial Day, I'm soaking up the Hamptons sun, and loving every minute of it

Pocketful Of Secrets

I think it's fair to say that I've been obsessed with Phantogram's Eyelid Movies on Barsuk Records for quite some time now. I've listened to the Saratoga Springs duo incessantly for the past two months and still am not tired of their "messy, sweet, and a little weird" music. Favorite tracks include "You Are The Ocean", "When I'm Small", and "Mouthful of Diamonds".

Some Women Aren't Meant To Be Tamed

Sorry for the temporary hiatus, but home at last in New York City, and it is HOT. It has been so good seeing old friends, eating at old restaurants, and just walking the streets of Manhattan where I know it's always crowded and something is always going on.

I've started my internship at the record label United For Opportunity and I'm getting into the swing of being home. Tonight I'm going to dinner with the ladies at Vespa, of course, and then seeing the midnight showing of Sex And The City 2. (I hate to say it but I don't have very high expectations...)

Fight On Goddess

I'm taking a finals break to pack up some of my belongings and really am sad to take down the magnetic poetry from the fridge. I really love the phrases and poems that have accumulated over the past year from my lovely friends. Here are some of my favorites:

never make tonight my only vow
besides feel life here with us
joy is the thing to like
smile for it is the beauty we have come to know

fascinate
kiss
taste
touch
please
caress
charm
love
hold
respect
embrace
me

curl in his arms
i ache in his skin
enjoy the fever

i believed one morning he'd be sound asleep in my bed

In The Summer I Go Crazy

Attention, Blog alert. I wandered on This Long Century and was pleasantly surprised. It's an online magazine containing collections of pieces from authors, artists, filmmakers, musicians, and cultural icons ranging from sketches, essays, home movies, and all sorts of interesting things. Some of my favorites include artist Ricky Swallow's essay on music and artist Brook Andrew's poetry and sketches.

Very Superstitious

Last night I fell asleep watching The Apartment. It came out in 1960 and stars Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. I really enjoyed it's old school charm and would highly recommend it. Jack Lemmon lends his apartment to his superiors at his company so they can have affairs because he thinks he's going to get a promotion at work. Lemmon ends up falling in love with one of the mistresses and the rest is history.

This Saturday night Stevie Wonder was here to celebrate the opening of a new Jazz building at the Oberlin Conservatory. He performed with the Oberlin Jazz Ensemble and it truly was amazing. He seemed like a very nice guy and was genuinely touched by musicians playing his music and the dedication of the building. I think a highlight from that night was when Wonder was giving a speech and was thanking God and said "I don't know if he" pause "or she" ... The crowd went wild when he included the "or she" and I laughed because only at Oberlin.

Crown On The Ground

I first heard the song "Crown On The Ground" when I heard a recording of their performing at SXSW last year. Now Sleigh Bells is coming out with their debut album Treats on May 11th on N.E.E.T. (M.I.A.'s label) and Mom + Pop Records. They have a high energy sound and their music has been classified as "gritty, infectious noise-rock". The duo have received a ton of attention in the music world and have booked big gigs like Coachella and Pitchfork's Music Festival without even dropping an album, let alone any sort of release. It's love-it or hate-it music and I personally can't get enough.
